President's Message

Steve Romine, AITP Chapter President     Well, it’s that time of the month again. The Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 16th and the March monthly meeting will be on Tuesday, March 23rd. This month we have a wonderful person and good friend of mine, Debra White, speaking to us about the Wonders of Project Management. Debra has many years experience and has plenty of valuable information that she can impart. She is also a good person to know. So please join us this month at Jim N Nicks in Homewood so that you may learn some new tricks from the PM trade.
Also, this past month has been very exciting. I had the pleasure of attending a Kick-off meeting at UAB for the Student Chapter of AITP and for their new Business IT Degree. I am not sure how many people were invited to this event but UAB had a wonderful turnout. The Elite were there from several of the local major businesses. Protective Life, Vulcan, ACIPCO, AmSouth, Regions, Drummond, ComFrame and several others were in attendance along with the IT Faculty from UAB. The official meeting was kicked-off by UAB with an overview of their recent events, Introductions and a wonderful buffet. At 6 PM many of the IT students from the UAB AITP Chapter came in to mix and mingle with the Upper Crust of Birmingham’s business society. It was incredible to see the support that the local business is offering to the UAB group. This is only the first step in the journey to gain local business support for the UAB endeavor. As their chapter grows we, as the local AITP chapter, can be instrumental in helping to grow the commitment from businesses that were not able to attend. The students were also very excited. This will be a tremendous boost in growing the number of students participating in their AITP chapter.
We now have the date set for the UAB AITP chapter tour of ACIPCO. It will be this Friday, March 19th starting at 9 AM. There is a full day planned with lot’s of real-world information. I know the students will learn a lot from this day. I want to thank ACIPCO for allowing their people the time to do this for the students. And also a personal thanks to John Barnhart and Andrea Simmons for making this happen.
Again, this year our local chapter is committed to assisting and growing the Student Chapters. Our rallying point is in bringing the local business community together with the Student Chapters. The future of IT in Birmingham is graduating from the local Universities. It will benefit us all to get behind the student Chapters and aid them in any way that we can.
I thank you all again for your continued support and hope to see you all at our next AITP meeting on the 23rd.

The Regional 7 Student Conference, in Nashville, October 15-17. Let's try to get several of our Student Chapters involved in this conference. Then if every thing goes to plan, the news is the National Collegiate Conference will be in Atlanta in 2005. This is still in the planning stage so let's support Atlanta in the effort.
Please try to bring a new member or visitor to our Chapter meeting this month. We as a Chapter need to encourage our workforce to come and find out what AITP is all about.
Hope to see you at Jim N' Nicks, Tuesday March 23.
